Columbus: Brewery District, Grandview Heights & Short North

01-19-2012

January 19, 2012

The capital of Ohio, Columbus, is the center of one of the state's three largest metropolitan areas, the other two being  Cleveland and Cincinnati, and extends into several counties. Those wishing to buy a home in the city will find it is one of the nation's larger and more productive metro areas, a center of private business as well as state government activity. Technology and other business sectors have major presences, giving the city a diverse economy.

When preparing to buy a home, prospective residents should consider what sort of lifestyle will best suit them and examine the different communities within and around the city. Like other cities of comparable size and importance, Columbus has a variety of home styles, with residences both modern and traditional that will appeal to a variety of buyers.

The Brewery District

As the name suggests. this neighborhood was once the center of Ohio's brewing industry. In more recent years it has been rebuilt with townhouses, apartments, restaurants and shops, according to the Columbus Chamber. In addition, the source reports that this community is the site of restoration efforts to add more green spaces to the city.

Located relatively close to the downtown area, the Brewery District has attracted a number of residents, including professionals and young adults, among others.

While there are a number of families in the Brewery District, many families opt to live in a neighborhood that  is more suburban.

Grandview Heights

Situated west of downtown Columbus, this suburban neighborhood is a small community. Independent of Columbus in many respects, Grandview Heights offers a variety of styles for buyers to choose from. These styles range from new and modern to older and historic.

Because it is small and fairly suburban, green spaces and other attractions are frequently within walking distance for residents. It remains close enough to Columbus for easy access, however.

The Short North

Located within walking distance of downtown Columbus is the Short North, which boasts a number of boutiques, galleries and restaurants. This may appeal to residents who want to find themselves in the middle of the city and enjoy the perks of urban life. Professionals, students and families make up a substantial portion of the community.

The neighborhood has green spaces, restored architecture from the turn of the century and historic homes, according to the Columbus Chamber. Additionally, the community hosts a number of festivals and similar events year-round.
